Heavy vehicles will be barred on the Kohima-Mao stretch of National Highway-2 from May 18 over weak bridges.

DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner of Kohima has informed that official communications were received from the Executive Director (P), Regional Office, NHIDCL, Kohima on May 4, and from the NHIDCL PMU-Jakhama on May 9 regarding the condition of several bridges along the Kohima-Mao section of National Highway-2.
According to structural assessment reports, the bridges located at Chainages Ch. 194+700, Ch. 198+680, Ch. 200+020, and Ch. 210+100 have been found to be structurally weak and pose a serious public safety hazard.
In view of public safety concerns and to prevent further structural damage, the deputy commissioner has ordered the suspension of movement of heavy vehicles with 10 wheels and above along the affected Kohima-Mao stretch of NH-2 with effect from May 18 until further notice.

The order further stated that any violation of the restriction will invite prosecution under the relevant provisions of the law.
Meanwhile, the NHIDCL authorities have been directed to undertake repair and restoration works on the affected bridges on an urgent and priority basis in the interest of public safety.
