DIMAPUR — The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Tongpang L Jamir, along with Programme Coordinator Ashe Kiba, visited the polling station at Ward-11 (Chaara) under Chümoukedima Town Council on Tuesday.
The visit was conducted to assess accessibility measures and services provided for PwDs during the polling process.
According to a press release, the commissioner inspected the facilities arranged to ensure a barrier-free voting experience. The polling station was equipped with a wheelchair and an access ramp to facilitate the movement and participation of voters with disabilities.
During the visit, the commissioner interacted with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Returning Officer (RO), T Lemlila Sangtam, regarding the arrangements. It was learned that two PwD voters were registered at the polling station; one had exercised their franchise in the morning, and polling officials were awaiting the arrival of the second voter. Senior citizens and PwDs were accorded priority and assisted in casting their votes.

The commissioner appreciated the efforts of the election authorities in making the polling station accessible. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that all eligible voters, including persons with disabilities, are able to participate in the democratic process with dignity, independence, and ease.
The visit forms part of the commissioner's ongoing efforts to promote inclusive electoral practices across the state.
