
Students, teachers, interns from St. Joseph University, and
representatives from Can Youth and the National Tobacco Control Program gather
at St. Peter School, Toulazouma, during a tobacco awareness programme on
Saturday.
- DIMAPUR — An awareness programme on the harmful
effects of tobacco was held at St. Peter School, Toulazouma, on Saturday,
organised by the intern cohort from St. Joseph University (SJU) under the
auspices of Can Youth in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control
Programme (NTCP).
- According to an update on the occasion, a session was led by
Imkumla, a psychologist from NTCP, who provided a detailed presentation on
various forms of tobacco, including e-cigarettes, and their detrimental impact
on health.
- She highlighted the statistic that Nagaland has a 43.3%
tobacco usage rate, contributing to more than 700 new cancer cases annually.

- Dr. Moa Jamir, nodal officer of the District Tobacco Control
Unit, led an anti-tobacco pledge, encouraging all participants to commit to a
tobacco-free lifestyle.
- The programme concluded with a free oral health screening
for the students, conducted by Dr. Jamir and his medical team.
- The event saw participation from 92 students and 12 teachers
of St Peter School, along with five interns from SJU, two representatives from
Can Youth, and three officials from NTCP.
