  • KOHIMA — Tension persists at the Tizit-Namtola border since Monday after Assam Police arrested a Tata Sumo driver from Tizit.

  • The driver, identified as Hontong K, was reportedly arrested within Assam jurisdiction on Monday during a joint operation conducted by the Assam Police and Assam Rifles.

  • According to a reliable source, the driver's arrest is linked to Case No. 124/24 at Sonari Police Station in Assam, related to an alleged crime that occurred in the state in 2024.

  • While the exact grounds for the arrest are unclear, it's believed the investigation had been ongoing, leading to the driver's detention.

  • Following the arrest, the Private Drivers' Union Mon District had called a road blockade and restricted movement of vehicles at Namtola Dolong, which connects Nagaland and Assam.

  • However, with the cooperation of civil society and timely intervention by the police, the situation is now under control, sources said.

  • It was also learnt that district-level coordination is being maintained to ensure matters do not escalate and to maintain peace.
