Thevomia clan of Khonoma and Rachümi khel of Viswema renew historic ties, reaffirm unity and brotherhood.

KOHIMA — As a mark of reaffirming the age old brotherhood and traditional friendship between the Thevomia clan of Khonoma and Rachümi khel of Viswema village, the two clans came together in a historic gathering to celebrate their bond on Saturday at Hiekhakikie, Thevomia Khel, Khonoma village.
Addressing the gathering, Salhoutunuo Kruse, Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, shared that the forefathers had far-sighted vision for unity rooted in divine connection.
The minister expressed hope that the bond between the two clans would endure for generations.
She highlighted Khonoma’s contributions during British rule and the Naga movement, and stated that the event marks a significant step in preserving a relationship tracing back to the headhunting era which symbolises courage, loyalty, mutual respect and shared heritage.

She further urged the Nagas to live in unity and strengthen renewed friendship.
MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso also thanked the two villages for renewing their age-old ties. He expressed hope that with the gathering, the two clans would grow together with renewed spirit.
Abo Yalie, former president of NSF and APO, pointed to the growing disunity among the Nagas and the increase of factions in the state. He urged the people to strengthen unity among the Nagas.
Kepelhuto Punyü, president of Khonoma Thevomia Union Nagaland and Kediho Pusa, chairman of Rachümi Khel Panchayat, Viswema, delivered welcome address and greetings, respectively.
Puzashe Lcho, former treasurer of Angami Public Organisation (APO) also delivered a short speech.
Earlier, Kruse unveiled the monolith commemorating the friendship and Rachümi khel performed a cultural song during the programme.
The organisers stated that since ages, the two khels have observed a brotherhood feast symbolising solidarity and unity, and is regarded as one of the earliest brotherhood feast in Tenyimia history.
They said the enduring alliance stands as a testament to mutual respect, shared heritage, and the cultural cohesion that has long defined the community.
They also shared that the celebration aims not only to commemorate this sacred bond but also to renew and strengthen it for future generations.
They emphasised that the event will serve as a reminder of the values of friendship, cooperation, and collective responsibility that have sustained the relationship across centuries.
They also urged upon the gathering to embrace their roles as responsible citizens, contribute meaningfully to social causes, and work toward a future that safeguards the welfare and identity of generations to come.
