MOKOKCHUNG — The Social Garden, a fine dining restaurant, was launched at Aongza Ward, Mokokchung, on Wednesday.
Located in the Delhivery building next to Imkongmeren Sports Complex, the restaurant was founded by two 27-year-old technical graduates, Ongjena, an interior design architect, and Chiben, a civil engineer.
The restaurant offers Asian and continental dishes, with indoor and outdoor seating arrangements accommodating 50–55 guests. A private lounge has also been provided for small gatherings.
The space was conceptualised and designed by Ongjena, featuring a Scandinavian-inspired interior and a garden-style outdoor setting.

Speaking about the venture, Ongjena said their initial plan in 2024 was to open a café, but market research indicated a demand for fine dining in Mokokchung. “We decided to scale up our vision,” she said.
“We researched thoroughly, refined our concept, and poured our efforts into making it a reality. This isn’t just a business for us—it’s a way to give back to Mokokchung and our community by delivering exceptional food in a thoughtfully designed setting,” she said.

She acknowledged challenges, particularly in securing a suitable location, but said support from friends and family helped them proceed with the project.
The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Wapang Kichu, Councillor of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), who described The Social Garden as “one of a kind” in the town.
Acknowledging the limitations of a small population in Mokokchung, he highlighted that “only creativity can help businesses thrive and survive here.”

Drawing from his own experiences, Kichu said that business is not always smooth and involves ups and downs, and advised them to prepare for difficult situations, not take success for granted, and focus on maintaining consistent quality, particularly in food and service.
The dedicatory prayer was led by Imnakumzuk Jamir, Associate Pastor (Youth) at Kumlong Baptist Church.
