KOHIMA — The Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) on Monday celebrated its second foundation day on the theme ‘Legacy of unity’ at Tesophenyu village under Tseminyu district.

Addressing the foundation day celebration, noted peace activist Niketu Iralu said that the theme ‘Legacy of unity’ is instantly striking and evokes questions.

“Legacy and unity are powerful words for this gathering, reminding the Tenyimi people they have a legacy of great value to guide them and uphold, he said and added that today's Nagas have a crucial role in shaping the future of Naga society while upholding their valuable legacy.

Iralu said that in the present situation of acute insecurity, everyone is concerned about the society that their children and grandchildren would inherit, because the world has been so wounded and damaged by unhealed and unrestored wrongs.

He noted that Nagas realised the importance of unity in strengthening their emerging identity, defending it, and surviving as a nation of tribes bound by shared history, culture, and spiritual beliefs.

“This TUN convention represents a renewed understanding and conviction to emphatically reclaim that legacy that had been achieved at great cost by our pioneers,” Iralu said, and expressed hope that TUN would successfully navigate future growth challenges.

“Our problems are increasing in size, numbers and complexity. They are overwhelming us and destroying us. This we see at all levels of our society, ‘Overground’ or ‘Underground,’ as we call them. This is a reality most of us have come to accept as a nightmare that has come out of us and the crisis of our struggle,” he said.

Sharing greetings, Jwenga Seb, MLA, said that the TUN which comprises the Angami, Chakhesang, Rengma, Zeliang and Pochury tribes, is a testament to the unity and solidarity that has existed “among us since time immemorial.”

He emphasised TUN's sacred duty to promote peace, tranquillity, and justice, urging the Tenyimi people to uphold the values of brotherhood, unity, and justice inherited from their forefathers.

“Let us work together to build a future where every Tenyimi brothers and sisters can thrive and prosper. Let us be the guardians of peace and progress in Nagaland and beyond,” he added.

Former minister Nillo Rengma also exhorted the gathering.

Zandi Domta, president of Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation; Chompa Jurry, president of Pochury Hoho; Vezuhii Keyho, president of Chakhesang Public Organisation, and Theja Vihienuo, president of Angami Public Organisation, also shared solidarity messages.

The programme was chaired by TUN president Kekhwengulo Lea while Rengma Hoho president Tesinlo Semy delivered the welcome address.

Vote of thanks was proposed by TUN general secretary Dr. Tumda Newme.
