DIMAPUR — Sumi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) on Sunday celebrated the pre-centenary jubilee of its Christian Education department, marking a significant milestone in its dedication to nurturing the spiritual growth of children and youths.
The morning session was graced by Rev. Dr. Kiyeto Sema, Senior Pastor of Sumi Aphuyeni Baptist Church, Kohima, as the speaker. In his inspiring address, Rev. Dr. Sema emphasised the significance of children's education, citing Isaiah 55:11. He stressed that Christian principles taught in Sunday school during childhood have a lasting impact on individuals and society.
He encouraged the church to prioritise children's ministry and urged youths, elders, and parents to serve as Sunday school teachers. He noted that children are the future leaders of society and will shape its spiritual and social fabric.

In his closing remarks, Rev. Sema wished and prayed that the pre-centenary jubilee celebration would continue to bring blessings, renewal, and spiritual growth to the congregation.
Chairman of the Centenary Planning Board, Y Kikheto Sema, said that the Christian Education department's jubilee has not been celebrated in the past. Therefore, to honour the past legacy and acknowledge the pioneers and present Sunday school teachers, SBCK has included the pre-centenary celebration of the Christian Education department in its calendar.
Kikheto highlighted the pioneering work of Luveto Shohe, who served as the first Sunday school supervisor from 1881 to 1989, and appreciated his service and the pioneers who have served under SBCK.
The Christian Education department was first established in 2012 under SBCK, with Dr. L Botoholi Yeptho serving as the Associate Pastor, he added.
He also said that during Associate Pastor Piokali Sema's tenure from 2001 to date, the church has worked towards the pre-centenary celebration of the department under SBCK.
Lukheto Yeptho, Chairman of the Board of Deacons and former Sunday school supervisor, delivered a greeting message.
During the jubilee celebration, certificates were also distributed to Sunday school pioneers and current teachers. Piokali Sema, Associate Pastor of CED, chaired the programme, which included a special melody performance by ex-Sunday school teachers and the Family Music Band.
In the evening session, Dr. L Botoholi Yeptho, Associate Pastor (General), SBCK delivered a powerful message, further enriching the celebration, the SBCK stated in a press release.
