Sumi Aphuyemi forum against Ahuna celebration in Pughoboto

DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens' Forum (ANSASCF), Pughoboto, has decided not to support or extend cooperation to the proposed celebration of Ahuna festival at Pughoboto town.

This was resolved during the general meeting of the forum held on October 16 at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, which was attended by all executive members and concerned senior members of the forum, the ANSASCF stated in an update.

According to the forum, the announcement of proposed celebration of Ahuna festival at Pughoboto town was made “suddenly as if an imposition upon the hosts and without consultation of all stake holders including senior citizens of Sumi Aphuyemi.”

The forum also noted that the Ahuna festival, being a significant cultural heritage of the Sumis, requires thorough year-long preparations to showcase their customs and traditional practices effectively.

“But regretfully, there is shortage of time for preparation to showcase such a big event.

“Therefore, the forum with utmost restraint, express its opinion that the hosting of Ahuna celebration at Pughoboto at such a short notice is impossible and suggest that it should be postponed to next year or any other convenient year according to the wishes of the people of Pughoboto area,” the forum added.
