- KOHIMA — The
director of School Education, Razouseyi Vese, on Friday urged students to use
technology responsibly and adopt safe internet practices, cautioning that while
digital advancements have made life easier and more efficient, misuse of
technology could lead to serious consequences.
- Speaking at the one-day inter-district Science seminar held
at the auditorium hall of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School (RGHSS)
in Kohima, Vese emphasised the importance of safeguarding digital assets and
making informed, secure use of gadgets and networks in the digital era.

- Dwelling on the topic of the seminar “Cyber security in the
digital era; saving our digital assets,” Vese stated that society now lives
amid advanced technology, where things have become more accessible, saving
time, money and economic resources. While acknowledging the merits of
technology, he also warned of its demerits.
- He emphasised the need to use gadgets and technology
responsibly, as there is always a tendency to misuse or abuse them, which could
land one in trouble or even reach a point of no return. He, therefore, advised
students to protect themselves and practice internet safety with their systems,
data and networks for personal security.
- Highlighting the objective of the seminar, the director
informed that the inter-district Science seminar was primarily organised for
government-run schools as the department is striving to encourage its own
students.
- He debunked the perception that students from government
schools are second-class and clarified that they are second to none. He pointed
out that even this year, some students from government schools have topped the
board examination and that students from private schools are seeking enrolment
in government higher secondary schools.
- In this regard, he informed that the Directorate of School
Education has issued a directive to prioritise students who have passed from
government school for admission irrespective of grades and to give second
preference to students from private schools.
- While acknowledging the inability of the department to
provide all the required facilities, Vese encouraged students and teachers not
to get discouraged stating that the department is trying to improve in every
area. He encouraged the teachers to go the extra mile and make RGHSS Kohima a
model school.
- He further informed that the department would monitor all
those teachers who are not performing well and do follow-up actions every
month.
- The welcome address was delivered by Chandra Kant Bharti,
senior principal of RGHSS Kohima, while the RGHSS choir presented a choral
piece and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Gloria Ezung, assistant
director of School Education.
- The judges included Daniel Thong, vice principal and head of
IE and ICT at SCERT; Vilakhole Naki, research associate at SCERT; and Temsukaba
Longkumer.
- A total of 18 schools from various districts participated in
the seminar and took part in the competition.
- Vinoho Phiyie from PM Shri GHSS, Chümoukedima, secured the
first position in the seminar, while Asha Rai from GHSS Singrijan and Noor
Hussain from GHS Sarbura won the second and third positions respectively.
