WOKHA — The Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched a week-long steel fabrication training programme under the Providing Access to Core Employability Skills (PACES) initiative at the community hall in Wokha village on Monday.
A total of 25 trainees from Humtso, Elumyo, and Wokha villages have been selected for the first batch.
The training, spread across seven days, will provide 50 hours of hands-on instruction aimed at equipping local youth with practical, income-generating skills to promote self-employment and small-scale enterprise.
Mhonkhao Murry, Head GB of Wokha village, delivered the welcome address. Representatives from the Zynorique Initiative Society (ZIS), the training partner, presented the keynote address, stressing the growing demand for fabrication skills in the construction and local manufacturing sectors.

Speaking at the event, Echungbemo Eru, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Wokha, underscored the importance of skill-based livelihoods in the current employment landscape. He said initiatives like PACES create opportunities at the grassroots level, enabling youth to pursue sustainable and self-reliant careers.
Ekonthung Ezung, District Employment Officer of Wokha, encouraged trainees to actively engage in the programme, noting that steel fabrication remains a viable and promising trade amid ongoing infrastructure development.
