St. Xavier Higher Secondary School in Shamator celebrates annual cultural day.

DIMAPUR — St. Xavier Higher Secondary School in Shamator organised its annual cultural day on Friday with Mekato Aye, EAC of Shamator, as the special guest, and Col. GP Singh, commandant of 32 Assam Rifles, as the guest of honour.
An update from the school stated that the programme began with a welcome address delivered by the school’s principal, Fr. Latsutho Poji, followed by a series of vibrant cultural presentations.
The highlight of the day was a series of competitions that reflected the vibrancy of local tradition and talent. It stated that students competed in war cry (yelling), displaying strength and unity, while folk dances and folk songs celebrated the community’s cultural heritage.

Traditional skills were also showcased through competitions in basket-making and knitting, which highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous crafts. Students also presented folk tale narrations, bringing alive the wisdom, humour and moral values embedded in oral traditions.
Speaking at the occasion, both the special guest and the guest of honour commended the students for their energetic performances and the school for organising such an event that nurtures cultural identity along with academics. They encouraged the young generation to take pride in their roots, while also striving for excellence in their studies and future careers.
The celebration brought together students, teachers and parents in a spirit of unity, creativity and cultural pride.
