DIMAPUR — The Eco Club, NCC and NSS units of St. Joseph University (SJU) in Chümoukedima have jointly observed Earth Week from April 22 to the 29th with a series of awareness initiatives aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
An update from the university stated the week-long observance began with circulation of daily e-pamphlets, each highlighting key environmental themes and encouraging eco-friendly actions among students and staff. It stated that the campaign effectively fostered awareness and engagement across the university community.

The celebration culminated on April 29 with a pledge-taking ceremony held at the university ground. The pledge was administered by registrar, Dr. A Robert Xavier, wherein all the members reaffirmed commitment to protecting the environment and adopting sustainable practices.
The deputy registrar, Rev. Sr. Dr. Thianes Mary, who spoke on the occasion, highlighted the importance of Earth Week and stressed the responsibility of every individual in safeguarding the environment for future generations. She has called for collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
The ceremony was followed by a tree plantation drive within the university campus. Saplings were planted by the registrar, deputy registrar, finance controller, public relations officer, president of students’ council, founding faculty members, and representatives of the three organising clubs.
