DIMAPUR — St. Joseph University (SJU) in Chümoukedima observed National Education Day 2025 on Tuesday with a panel discussion on the theme “AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation”.

The programme, organised by the Department of Education, brought together academicians and scholars to deliberate on the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and education in shaping a human-centred learning environment, according to a press release.

The session was moderated by Dr. Vinoth S, professor and head, Department of Education, who emphasised that technology should “serve human intelligence, not replace it,” and highlighted the importance of nurturing creativity, ethics, and compassion in an age of digital transformation.

The panel featured four speakers. Rev. Sr. Dr. M Thianes Mary, deputy registrar, spoke on Inclusive and equitable education, stressing that AI must bridge—not widen—the digital divide by ensuring accessibility for all learners.

Prof. Dr. VT Vasagan, dean of Social Sciences and Management, presented on Innovative Learning, encouraging educators to embrace inquiry-based and learner-centred pedagogies supported by AI and emerging technologies.
