DIMAPUR — The 8th annual sports and games meet of St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, kick-started on Thursday with former Member of Parliament C Apok Jamir as the special guest for the inaugural programme.
The event commenced with the hosting of national flag and St. Joseph University flag by the special guest and SJU vice-chancellor Dr. D Gnanadurai, respectively, an update stated.
In his address, Jamir underscored the significance of sports in life, emphasising that achieving excellence requires pushing beyond the ordinary and overcoming obstacles that arise along the way.

He also highlighted that students should become an asset and a contributing factor to the society.
According to Jamir, the greatest treasure is not wealth or money but health – encompassing both physical and spiritual well-being. He encouraged students to engage in healthy competition, urging them to strive for excellence with integrity.
Jonsuthung Humtsoe administered the oath taking ceremony. Another highlight of the day was the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic torch, which was carried by Nanglem Konyak, Rüvezo Swüro, Vilevonuo Khamo, Konven Vong and Akhriezo Kelio.
