- KOHIMA — The
first grandmaster chess coaching camp in Nagaland, organised by the Nagaland
Chess Association (NCA) in collaboration with the All India Chess Federation,
got underway on Thursday at the Nagaland Olympic Association hall, Kohima.
- It was informed that 41 chess players from Nagaland have
enrolled in the coaching camp, scheduled to conclude on March 29. The camp will
be led by renowned Grandmaster Tejas Bakre, who is also a FIDE senior trainer
and coach.
- Vekukho Soho, honorary secretary of NCA, said that Nagaland
has been lagging behind other states in chess in the past. However, he assured
that the NCA is committed to organising more chess events in the state, aiming
to uplift and support Naga chess players.
- He said that they are trying their best to fill the gaps
which have been left unattended for so long.
- Soho also announced that they will be organising the first
even Nagaland Open Fide Rating Rapid Chess Tournament on April 24 and 25. He
informed that they are expecting around 200 players from across the country in
the upcoming event.
- He also announced that they will be hosting the North East
Fide Rating Chess Championship next year. Likewise, he announced that they plan
to organise larger chess events in the near future, and encouraged all players
to be prepared for the upcoming tournaments.

- He further exhorted the trainees to focus and concentrate on
the coach's teachings, and to learn as much as possible during the coaching
session.
- He also shared that he has been involved with chess for over
34 years and he became a grand master in 2004.
