- KOHIMA — Under
the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in Nagaland, there are two sports
academies: the Sports Academy Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium, Kohima, and the State
Sports Academy Dimapur, with a total of 211 students enrolled.
- The data provided by the department in the administrative
report for 2024-25 shows that there are 146 students from different disciplines
enrolled in the Sports Academy IG Stadium, Kohima, and 65 students enrolled in
the State Sports Academy Dimapur, as of March 2025.
- The data also shows that at IG Stadium, there are 74 girls,
72 boys, and 10 coaches from various disciplines. In the Sports Academy
Dimapur, there are 33 girls, 32 boys, and 6 coaches.

- Further details about the distribution across disciplines
show that at IG Stadium, Kohima, there are 17 boys and 17 girls in archery, 32
girls in football, 30 boys in taekwondo, 15 boys and 15 girls in wrestling, and
10 boys and 10 girls in boxing. There are also two coaches for archery, three
coaches each for football and boxing, and one coach each for taekwondo and
wrestling.
- Under the State Sports Academy Dimapur, there are 18 girls
in athletics, 32 boys in football, and 15 girls in sepaktakraw. There are also
two coaches for each discipline.
- The department also stated that, at present, it has 25
coaches in 15 disciplines and eight physical instructors for schools. It also
mentioned that the department has 10 top priority disciplines, with special
emphasis placed on football, archery, taekwondo, sepaktakraw, boxing,
athletics, badminton, table tennis, and cricket.
- It was also mentioned that the department has 23
associations, namely archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing,
football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, Muay Thai, rifle, sepaktakraw,
softball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wushu,
wrestling, and fencing, which are affiliated with the Nagaland Olympic
Association.
