15 Naga wrestlers to compete in Asian Alysh Championship

  • DIMAPUR —  In view of the forthcoming Asian Belt Wrestling Alysh Championship, scheduled to take place in Delhi from May 21 to the 26th, the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), with 15 wrestlers, will be part of the Indian contingent, which comprises 24 slots in the senior category of the championship, including both male and female participants.

  • According to an update by NWA joint secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, an intensive coaching camp for the NWA wrestlers got underway on Wednesday at the IG Stadium Multipurpose Hall "B". The camp will continue until their departure to Delhi.

  • A short dedicatory programme for the camp was organised on Wednesday, with Rev. Vilakiezo Yano, pastor of the Angami Christian Revival Church Council (ACRCC) Mission Centre, Kohima, exhorting the wrestlers and invoking God's blessing for the camp and all future proceedings.

  • Approximately 30 nations, including a few countries from Europe and Africa, are expected to be part of the championship, where Naga wrestling is anticipated to be introduced. The NWA appealed to the Nagas to uphold their wrestlers in prayer.

  • The officials include state president Vivolie Kezo, state secretary Kenlum Hemang, referee Surhoneyi Soho (UWW nominated), team director Er. Seyielhouvi Nagi, team manager Keneilel Kevin Rote, and team coaches Vekhriyi Chüzho, Rangsilang, and Mezhiesino Keyho.

  • The wrestlers in the free style men's category are Lhupra Vero (60 kg), Rokuokehie Khawakhrie (70 kg), Küvenu Puro (80 kg), Hulüyi D. Vadeo (90 kg), Venuzo Dawhuo (100 kg), and Rukukhoto Khushi (100+ kg). In the free-style women's category, Thejaneinuo Thevo (75 kg) and Khrielhounuo Thevo (75+ kg) will compete.

  • In the classic style men's category, the wrestlers are Wezutsho Venuh (60 kg), Külüvezo Soho (70 kg), Seyiejalie Gwirie (80 kg), Vevokho Ruho (90 kg), and Menuosetuo Yiese (100+ kg). The classic style women's wrestlers are Haizuyile (65 kg) and Vikehenuo Zumvu (75+ kg).

  • The NWA team is expected to leave for Delhi on May 19 and return on May 26.
