DIMAPUR — For the first time since the split within the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) and the subsequent splintering of the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG), representatives from both factions met jointly with the government of India’s interlocutor, AK Mishra on Thursday.

The meeting, held at the Nagaland Police Complex in Chümoukedima, was followed by a separate session between Mishra and the NSCN-K faction led by Niki Sumi at the same venue.

Those present during the joint meeting included N Kitovi Zhimomi, Isak Sumi, Alezo Venuh, Hokato Vusshe, P Tikhak, Starson Lamkang, and Akato Chophy, among others.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, WC-NNPG convener N Kitovi Zhimomi said the two factions had resolved not to allow differences of the past to impede progress in the ongoing peace process. He stated that the meeting was focused on exploring ways to advance the Naga political talks towards an early solution.

“We have decided not to let the past legacy and history hold us back from moving forward,” he said.

From the group led by Neopkao Konyak, Working Convenor Isak Sumi, confirmed Zhimomi’s assertion, stating that the ultimate objective is for all Naga political groups to come together, reach a consensus, and collectively pursue a final solution.

He clarified that the current efforts are not limited to just the two NNPG factions but are aimed at encouraging all Naga political groups and stakeholders to unite and work towards a common roadmap.

When asked about Mishra’s stance on the existence of two WC-NNPG, Sumi responded that the status quo remains. He further clarified that it was not about specific platforms but about different groups engaging in dialogue at the same table as separate entities.

Regarding the next meeting, he said no date has been fixed but expressed hope that the process will be expedited.
