Special Lok Adalat held across Nagaland settles five NI Act cases worth INR. 58.58 lakh, with Kiphire DLSA recording the highest settlement amount.
DIMAPUR — Under the directive of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across Nagaland, under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), conducted a Special Lok Adalat on Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act cases on July 18.
A total of 22 pending NI Act cases were taken up across the state, of which five were amicably settled, with a total settlement amount of INR 58,58,800, the NSLSA stated in a press release.
The Kiphire DLSA, through an e-Lok Adalat, recorded the highest settlement by disposing of all three cases before it, with a total settlement amount of INR 51,08,800.

The Dimapur DLSA settled one out of seven cases for INR 4,00,000, while the Peren DLSA disposed of its lone case with a settlement amount of INR 3,50,000.
At the Kohima DLSA, eight NI Act cases were taken up, but none could be settled and were referred back to the regular court, the release stated.
Similarly, one case each taken up by the Mokokchung and Zunheboto DLSAs remained unresolved and was returned to the regular court.
“The Special Lok Adalat served as an effective platform for the amicable resolution of disputes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, facilitating speedy, cost-effective and accessible justice while helping reduce the burden of prolonged litigation,” the release stated.
