A spate of gunpoint robberies in Dimapur, including incidents at Hongkong Market and Aokong Colony, has raised concerns over public safety, police investigation underway.

DIMAPUR — Reports of gunpoint robberies targeting residents in Dimapur have raised concerns over public safety, following two recent incidents involving armed assailants.
In one case on April 20, a man was robbed of INR 6,000 at gunpoint around 8:40 pm while returning home from his shop in Hongkong Market. The victim, a resident of Sematilla Colony, was allegedly accosted by two unidentified persons near the Durga Mandir area.
According to reports, the assailants took him to Murgipatti, hired an autorickshaw, and proceeded towards the Ghorapatti area. The victim was initially forced to hand over INR 500. The assailants then seized his mobile phone and threatened to shoot him if he failed to provide the password.
One of the accused allegedly used the victim’s phone to withdraw INR 6,000 from a petroleum outlet in Ghorapatti through an online payment transaction, while the victim was held inside the autorickshaw. He was later released near Vishal Shopping Mall without physical harm.

In a separate incident on April 13, a 33-year-old woman was robbed of INR 900 near her residence at Aokong Colony, Firing Range.
The incident occurred around 5:22 pm when she was returning home. A scooty-borne assailant, described as wearing a mask and black helmet, reportedly stopped her on the pretext of making a phone call and then snatched her purse at gunpoint.
While the cash was taken, the purse containing her PAN card, Aadhaar card, ATM card and driving licence was later recovered from Tuesday Bazaar area on the same evening.
Police said a case has been registered at West Police Station, and investigation is underway.
