A one-day tour guiding workshop was held in Kohima by SAYO and the Department of Tourism, training local youth in guiding, first aid, cultural sensitivity.

DIMAPUR — A one-day workshop on tour guiding was organised by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism at P Khel Panchayat Hall, Viswema, on August 27.


The workshop, aimed at equipping local youth and stakeholders with professional skills in tour guiding, brought together experts and resource persons from various fields of tourism, adventure, and emergency response, stated an update.


Moatemsu Sangtam, assistant director, Department of Tourism, gave the introduction, highlighting the importance of trained tour guides in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the state.


The technical sessions were led by Neikedolie Hiekha, proprietor of Naga BIVOUAC and former chairman of the Ecotourism Management Committee, Khonoma, who spoke on the principles of tour guiding.

Kholie Dolf, MC member IRCSN and master trainer in first aid, St. John Ambulance of India, presented on first aid and emergency response. Ruokuovikho Chale, president, Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering and Education, spoke on cultural sensitivity and destination knowledge.


Deepak Shrivasta, principal of the State Institute of Hotel Management Dimapur (SIHMD), gave an awareness session on various educational and career opportunities at their institute.


A significant highlight of the programme was the formal launching of the Southern Angami Tourist Guide Council, declared by Zasitolie Beio, President of SAYO. An interactive session was also held, giving participants the opportunity to engage with the resource persons.
