DIMAPUR — The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) has appealed for immediate intervention from the “deputy chief minister of Nagaland” following a major landslide on National Highway-29/A-1, which has rendered the route “impassable and hazardous.”

In an appeal issued on Sunday night, the organisation highlighted the damages caused by recent heavy rainfall in the area: the triggering of landslide that had resulted in the spilling over of large volumes of onto the highway from the upper slopes.

The organisation cautioned that the situation poses a serious threat to lives, property, and the community if left unaddressed.

Accordingly, it appealed to the “deputy chief minister” to direct the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), along with other authorities such as the Public Works Department and disaster management cell, to initiate urgent clearance and restoration work.

The SAPO also called for the issuance of a public advisory to alert commuters and local residents about the hazardous conditions on the route and to implement safety measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
