DIMAPUR — A solar dryer unit for fish farmers was inaugurated on March 27 at Tuli under Mokokchung district, marking a significant step towards sustainable livelihood enhancement and improved fish processing practices in the region.
The project was formally inaugurated by Rahul Singh, General Manager (Operations), Nagaland Rural Bank, in the presence of Subonenba Longkumer, Director of Community Educational Centre Society (CECS), local stakeholders, fish farmers, and community members, an update from CECS stated.

The solar dryer is expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses, a major challenge faced by fish farmers due to spoilage and inadequate preservation facilities.
By ensuring hygienic drying conditions, the unit will help produce high-quality dried fish with enhanced shelf life and better market value.
Speaking at the event, Rahul Singh emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable technologies to strengthen rural livelihoods and encouraged farmers to make the best use of the facility.
He also encouraged the farmer to make use of the available resources and said that the Nagaland Rural Bank will extend support to the farmers and SHGs through bank linkages and loan for sustainable livelihood.
“The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to uplift the socio-economic condition of tribal communities in the region while promoting environmentally friendly practices,” the update added.
