DIMAPUR —  The Society for Naga Students’ Welfare Kerala (SNSWK) has organised a seminar for workers at the Kerala United Theological Seminary (KUTS) in Trivandrum on July 14.

An update from the society stated that the event saw participation of around 200 workers, who came together for a day of learning, reflection and empowerment.

The seminar was conducted in two sessions. It stated that the first session titled ‘Retreat programme’ offered workers a space for mental and emotional rejuvenation. It encouraged reflection and dialogue, allowing the participants to momentarily step away from daily pressures and focus on personal growth and well-being.

The second session was “Awareness on drug abuse and its effects,” an issue of growing concern in labourer community.

The resource persons were Harikumar PS, assistant commissioner of Excise and district manager of Vimukthi Mission; Rejitha R, labour officer; Lakshmichandra R, assistant labour officer; and Arun S, assistant labour officer.

It stated that the speakers shared vital information about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and its social and health impacts. They also educated the workers on their rights, available welfare schemes and the importance of staying informed and engaged with support systems.

It mentioned that an important outcome of the event was the successful enrolment of all participating workers in the Athidhi Portal, official platform of the Kerala government for registering migrant and unorganised sector workers. It added that the initiative would help ensure better access to benefits, support and recognition for those in the labour force.
