Mokokchung Police nab fake police inspector, IMFL seized

MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung Police on Tuesday arrested an individual impersonating an Assam Police Inspector and seized a consignment of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a routine check at Watiyongpang Check Gate, Mokokchung.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 am when police intercepted a white Indica (registration AS 03 H 9220) with ‘POLICE’ marked on its windshield.

A thorough search revealed concealed illegal IMFL, including two cases of MC Rum (750ml), 12 cases of MC Rum (180ml), one case of AC Black Whiskey (180ml), and four cases of Kingfisher Beer.

The driver, identified as Dipankar Gogoi, son of Surya Gogoi from Hati Muria Gaon, Sivasagar district, Assam, was taken into police custody along with the seized contraband.

Shockingly, Gogoi served as a driver with the Fire Emergency Service, Assam, headquartered in Panbazar, Guwahati. He was found wearing a police uniform and posing as an Assam Police Inspector.

A case has been registered against Gogoi under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, and NLTP Act for further investigation.
