DIMAPUR — The Sümi Hoho has appealed to the Minister of Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, to revoke all faculty attachment orders from Zunheboto Government College, the only government arts college in the district.

In an open representation dated August 7, the apex Sümi organisation expressed concern over what it described as the “continued indifference” of the Department of Higher Education towards the institution. It said the college, which already faces limited faculty strength and high student enrolment, has been further affected by the recent attachment of another assistant professor from the History department to another location.

The Sümi Hoho said Zunheboto district has neither a government science nor a commerce college, and alleged that while other institutions are being strengthened, Zunheboto Government College is being “deliberately weakened.”

“While other institutions are being strengthened, ours is being silently stripped of its essential staff,” stated the representation.

Questioning if the department intends to shut down Zunheboto Government College altogether, the Sümi Hoho stated that verbal assurances from the minister’s office and senior officials have “so far resulted in actions that directly contradict your words.”

It further accused the department of “step-motherly treatment” towards the district and warned that if the faculty attachment orders are not revoked immediately, the people of Zunheboto would be compelled to take “firm and democratic steps” to defend their educational rights.

“This is not just an administrative matter. It is an issue of dignity, equality, and justice for a district that has been repeatedly sidelined,” it asserted.
