The 8th Skill Fest 2026 commenced at Oriental College, Kohima, to equip students with practical life skills.

DIMAPUR — The three-day Skill Fest 2026, themed “Skill up for a better tomorrow”, commenced at Oriental College, Kohima (OCK), on Thursday and will conclude on July 18.
The festival was formally declared open by the special guest, Major Anshuman Sawant.
According to an update, speaking on the occasion, Sawant stressed that qualities such as competence, teamwork, adaptability, and life skills are essential for both soldiers and students. He encouraged students to strive to become the best version of themselves and to use their knowledge and abilities to contribute positively to society.
He said, "Never stop learning," noting that while a degree may open doors, it is one's skills that determine success. He further advised students not to fear failure but to learn from every setback and move forward with determination. Also, he urged them to use their skills and keep moving forward, reminding them that continuous learning and self-improvement are vital for personal growth and nation-building.
In the keynote address, VP (Admin) of OCK, Chibeni Murry, highlighted that the Skill Fest was initiated in 2017 under the leadership of the then Principal, Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, with the objective of equipping students with practical skills to adapt to an ever-changing world.

She stated that while employment could not be guaranteed, the initiative was a humble effort to develop students' personalities and prepare them with skills that would provide an added advantage in the future.
Emphasising the various trades and skill-based programmes offered during the fest, she encouraged students to make the best use of the opportunity and actively participate in the sessions. Stressing that education and skills must go hand in hand, she urged students to continue learning new skills throughout their lives, adding that the college remains committed to promoting holistic education and equipping students to meet future challenges.
The various trades offered during the fest are baking, basket making, carpentry, car repairing, crochet, electrical fitting, and food processing.
