  • DIPHU — As many as 50 candidates who have qualified in the Sixth Schedule Special Teacher Eligibility Test (SSTET) from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong have appealed to the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to immediately release the teachers’ recruitment advertisement.

  • The appeal was made by SSTET qualified members during a press conference held at Rangsina Sarpo auditorium hall, Lorulangso, in Diphu on Wednesday.

  • It was informed that SSTET was conducted by the Department of Education, Assam, on April 30, 2023, for three Sixth Schedule districts comprising Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

  • Subsequently, results were declared on June 15, 2023. In Karbi Anglong, 1,023 candidates qualified for the lower primary level and 801 for the upper primary, while in West Karbi Anglong, 600 candidates cleared the lower primary and 419 in the upper primary level.

  • Altogether, 2,843 candidates from the twin districts successfully cleared the SSTET 2023.

  • Following the results, both Dima Hasao and BTR districts promptly issued recruitment advertisements, conducted interviews and appointed qualified candidates to fill teacher vacancies. However, even after lapse of more than a year later, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) was yet to publish any advertisement for teacher recruitment.

  • “We have approached the concerned department and higher authorities multiple times, but we’ve only received the response that the process is ongoing at the official level. No concrete step has been taken so far,” claimed William Hanse, one of the qualified candidates during the press meet.

  • Hanse informed that the candidates have highlighted the dire situation in many schools in rural areas across Karbi Anglong, where some schools are being run by a single teacher.

  • “If KAAC issues advertisement and fill the vacant posts, the educational environment in the twin districts will significantly improve. Many young, qualified and talented individuals are willing to contribute voluntarily to enhance the education system,” said Hanse.

  • The SSTET qualified candidates have earnestly appealed to KAAC chief executive member, Dr. Tuliram Ronghang; Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma; education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu; minister and guardian of Karbi Anglong Nandita Gorlosa; education executive member, Richard Tokbi; and other concerned authorities to take immediate action.
