Educators across Nagaland were honoured with district awards during Teachers’ Day celebrations on September 5.
DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG/WOKHA — Teachers’ Day was celebrated across Nagaland on Saturday, highlighted by the presentation of district teachers’ awards to outstanding educators for their contribution to education.
Wokha: In Wokha, Deputy Commissioner (DC) K Mhathung Tsanglao conferred the District Teachers' Awards on Thungdemo Humtsoe of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Bhandari, L Yanbeni Murry of Government Middle School (GMS) Wokha Town D, N Longshibeni Ngullie of Government Primary School (GPS) Saron Wokha, and Jennifer Tsanglao of Isiah Ability Higher Secondary School.
According to a DIPR report, at the celebration held at VDB Hall, Tsanglao described teachers as "silent architects" and stressed the importance of guiding students with a "human touch" in the age of artificial intelligence.
Also in Wokha, Pinewood School celebrated the day at its campus with student presentations and activities. The State Bank of India Wokha Branch presented gifts to the teachers, and the headmistress delivered the vote of thanks.
Mokokchung: In Mokokchung, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) observed the Teachers’ Day with a celebration and felicitation programme at Whispering Winds.
During the event, four teachers selected for the District Teachers’ Award 2026 were honoured. The teachers were Kangabam Rajenkumar Singh, Graduate Teacher at GHS Longjang; Pusumenla Pongener, Trained Graduate Teacher at Assam Rifles School, Mokokchung; Sentimenla, Graduate Teacher at PM SHRI Mayangnokcha GHSS; and Shiluyongdang, Head Teacher at GMS Chungtiayimsen.
Speaking on behalf of the Mokokchung DC, Extra Assistant Commissioner Kewimesin Nriame said teachers play a vital role in shaping character, noting that technology cannot replace human relationships in education. District Education Officer Arenla called teachers partners in development.
Meluri: In Meluri, the District Teachers' Award 2026 was presented to Thozuvi Kajiri of GPS Akhegwo and Kusi M Yitsuthu of GMS Zhipu by guest of honour Rhoshutho, Primary Teacher, GMS Meluri Town, State Awardee 2025. Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) Kaitunchap Newmai highlighted the importance of NIPUN Nagaland, calling for zero student dropouts in the district.
Longleng: In Longleng, DC Manpai Phom handed out the district teacher awards at the VDB/VCC hall. He urged teachers to view their profession as a sacred duty rather than routine work.
Tuensang: In Tuensang, DC Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa presented the district awards at the Town Hall, encouraging teachers to upgrade their technological skills and calling for early childhood education in schools.
Niuland: In Niuland, DC TL Kiusumong Tikhir attended the common programme at Aqo Ki, describing educators as sculptors preparing students for nation-building.
Peren: In Peren, the district-level celebration was hosted by the district education officer, Peren; senior sub-divisional education officer, Peren; sub-divisional education officer, Tening; and all PM SHRI schools and GHSS under Peren district.
Nagaland Zeliang Peoples Organisation General Secretary Enchang Hiakha delivered the keynote address, focusing on quality education.
Kiphire: In Kiphire, the Assam Rifles celebrated the day with 320 students and 28 staff of Government Higher Secondary School, Pungro, and distributed sports items.
Kohima: In Kohima, the Students’ Council of Capital College of Higher Education organised a programme at Sahitya Sabha hall, PR Hill. Staff of the State Bank of India Kohima Main Branch, led by Deputy Manager E Yanpothung Kithan, Sosinle Tep, and Ajay Kumar, distributed gifts to the lecturers.
Chümoukedima: In Chümoukedima, the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research celebrated the day where Head of Department Dr. Toli H Kiba spoke on the transformative power of small choices made consistently.
Dimapur: In Dimapur, Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School celebrated with cultural programmes in the school auditorium, while Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School held a programme featuring cultural performances at its premises.
Zunheboto: At Nagaland University, the Department of Chemistry celebrated the day on September 3. Head of Department Ambrish Singh and other faculty members attended the event.
Assam Rifles: Assam Rifles celebrated Teachers’ Day across various locations. At Assam Rifles Public School, Jalukie, in Peren district, the force organised a motivational lecture, cultural programmes, and a felicitation ceremony.
In Kiphire, the force celebrated with 320 students and 28 staff of GHSS Pungro and distributed sports items. Celebrations were also held at GMS and Christian School in Anatongre village, Assam Rifles High School in Naginimora, and St. Xavier School in Shamator, where a student sanitation block was inaugurated.
