DIMAPUR — The Shanry Range Student Association (SRSA) has condemned an armed clash that took place between the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) and the NSCN (Ang Mai) groups at Hoku village in Nanyun Township, Myanmar, on May 28.
According to reports, at approximately 6 am on May 28, cadres of the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) allegedly carried out an unprovoked attack on members of the NSCN (Ang Mai) group while they were engaged in duties in the area. During the clash, Rajapeyu Sergeant Kambey of Ranchi village under the Tangshang Region sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
In a press release, the SRSA stated that the incident has created fear and insecurity among peaceful citizens and has disturbed the harmonious atmosphere that the villagers have maintained for many years. It added that such acts of violence disrupt daily life and educational activities and cause psychological trauma among children and the wider community.

The association expressed deep concern over the recurring nature of such incidents despite repeated appeals and condemnations by student bodies, non-governmental organisations, and civil society organisations across the Shanry Range region. It noted that the continued armed confrontations place innocent civilians at risk, marking the second such incident in the area and raising serious concerns regarding safety.
The SRSA appealed to both parties to exercise maximum restraint, cease all forms of armed confrontation, and resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding. The association called upon all concerned to respect the rights, dignity, and security of civilians, emphasising that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and commitment to the welfare of the people.
