IMPHAL — The ‘Segregation at Source’ campaign, aimed at proper solid waste management in Greater Imphal, kicked off Monday with twin bin distribution to over 6,500 households.
The twin bins — blue bin for wet waste and green bin for dry waste — were distributed to eleven NGOs which are engaged in door-to-door waste collection during an event organised by the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) under the initiative of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) at the City Convention Centre conference hall in Imphal.
The campaign will be covering around 6787 households from both Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
The event was attended by RK Dinesh, Principal Secretary of MAHUD, Director Ng. Uttam, MAHUD officials, representatives from Imphal East and West NGOs, and Imphal Municipal Corporation staff.
Uttam emphasised that collecting waste at least thrice weekly, segregating wet, dry, and hazardous waste, would lead to cleaner roads and a more effective campaign.
He urged all shops to subscribe to door-to-door waste collection services and register with the Imphal Municipal Corporation, in addition to obtaining GST registration.
