SDPDB Bhandari fixes deadline for Foothill Road

DIMAPUR — Giving a directive on the ongoing Foothill Road construction within Bhandari subdivision, Wokha district, MLA and Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon, said that the construction work should be completed by December 2025.


Kikon, who chaired the monthly SDPDB meeting of Bhandari at the conference hall of Summer House-cum-Guest House on September 11, added that the Foothill Road, once completed, would be hassle-free “Home road” for public travellers, a DIPR report stated. Elithung Ovung, SDO PWD (R&B), highlighted that the ongoing construction work covers approximately 39 km, including bridge construction, but noted that progress is slower in some areas due to monsoon rainfalls.

During the meeting, the house deliberated and resolved to apprise the government to reactivate or establish outposts for Nagaland Police or Nagaland Armed Police forces on permanent basis in strategic sites of the border areas of the subdivision in order to secure the borders, and also to provide adequate power supply and accommodation facilities to the Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) personnel currently stationed at Liphayan and Tchujanphen village areas.


Chairman of Ralan Area Lotha Hoho, CS Ovung said that public and villages have also provided logistical assistance to them whenever required.


A proposal was also made and deliberated to shift the present police check post from Bhandari town to Merapani village area (Marachu Yan).


In regard to shortage of a language teacher and informatics practices teacher at GHSS Bhandari, the school principal L Tiameren Longkumer, highlighted that the school has been functioning without the required teachers for the last two years.


The house subsequently resolved to request the relevant departments to fill these positions promptly.


Additionally, the house also deliberated on upgrading and streamlining the Baghty sub-treasury to serve as the central hub for government department financial transactions within the subdivision. This would involve relocating department offices from within Bhandari subdivision and empowering them with Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs).


Further, upgrade of power supply facility to Community Health Centre, Bhandari, and renovation of Northern Sumi Guest House., were also discussed and approved in the meeting.
