KOHIMA — Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M Scindia, on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains committed to the development of Nagaland and the Northeastern states, noting that the eight states of the region have been growing at 10–12% compounded annual growth rate over the past decade, with infrastructure in airports, highways, ports and telecom “growing by leaps and bounds.”

Speaking to media persons during his visit to the World War II Cemetery in Kohima, Scindia paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives and expressed gratitude for their sacrifice. He was accompanied by Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along.

Scindia said that he shares a heartfelt bond with the people of Nagaland and reiterated the prime minister’s commitment to making the eight Northeastern states India’s “frontier to the world.”

He added that Nagaland’s young and aspirational population has the potential not only to drive the state forward but also to contribute significantly to India’s growth.

The minister said that he looks forward to unveiling several development projects on December 5, including 15 projects brought by his ministry and five already inaugurated, amounting to about INR 250 crore.

He will also lay foundation stones for 10 projects worth around INR 422 crore, taking the total value of projects to be unveiled to nearly INR 650 crore.

Scindia added that many more projects are in the pipeline and that he is working closely with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
