DIMAPUR — The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has announced the reopening of trekking activities to Dzükou Valley following the wildfire incident that affected the valley for nearly 25 days.
In a notification, the SAYO stated that after a thorough assessment conducted by volunteers, in coordination with concerned authorities and supported by aerial inspection through helicopter services, it has been confirmed that the fire has been completely contained.
The valley is now considered safe for trekking, and necessary precautions have been put in place to ensure the safety of visitors.
While the organisation expressed regret over the extensive damage caused by the wildfire—which resulted in significant loss to the valley’s natural flora, fauna, and wildlife habitat—it remained hopeful for ecological recovery.

"Nature, in its resilience, promises renewal, and the anticipated sprouting of the seasonal wildflowers for which Dzükou valley is well known for," it stated.
The SAYO reiterated the decision implemented on October 1, 2025, where a local tourist guide is made mandatory for trekking to Dzükou Valley. Trekkers who do not abide by this guideline will not be allowed to enter the valley under any circumstances.
It also reminded the general public that trekking after 3 pm during winter (October-March) and 4 pm during summer (April-September) is prohibited and is implemented to date.
The organisation extended its gratitude to all agencies, volunteers, and well-wishers who worked to contain the wildfire and restore safe access to Dzükou Valley.
