- DIMAPUR — With an aim to uplift the
socio-economic status of tribal farmers in Nagaland through various
soybean-based interventions, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland
University (SAS, NU), Medziphema campus, conducted a farmers training programme
in Phishumi village under Zunheboto district on March 28.
- An update from the university stated that the training was
organised by AICRP on Soybean under TSP (Tribal Sub Plan). The programme was
coordinated by the GB of Phishumi village, wherein a total of 56 farmers
attended the training.
- The training was chaired by Dr. Engrala Ao, junior scientist
(Agronomy), while an invocation prayer was said by the pastor of Phishumi
village followed by brief remarks from GB of the village.

- The chairperson highlighted the importance of soybean
cultivation by emphasising its potential beyond traditional fermented soybean
products like Axone.
- In the technical session, Dr. Engrala made an informative
presentation on the production technology of soybean and encouraged the farmers
to practice line sowing with proper plant spacing, while Dr. Pezangulie
Chakruno, junior scientist (Plant Pathology), educated the farmers on
biological management of important pests and diseases of soybean crop.
- Dr. Sibino Dolie, technical assistant, demonstrated the
farmers on making of various value-added products of soybean, which was
followed by farmer-scientist interaction session and feedback from
participants.
- The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr.
Pezangulie followed by distribution of agricultural inputs to the farmers.
