SAMETI organised a four-day training on professional skills for agriculture and allied extension officers in Medziphema.

DIMAPUR — The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, organised a four-day training programme for agriculture and allied officers and functionaries on the topic “Professional skills for extension officers/functionaries” from March 10 to the 13th.
According to an update, in his inaugural speech, Bodevi Shuya, Director of SAMETI and Principal of IETC, spoke about the need for effective technology dissemination through soft skills to reach out successfully to grassroots-level targets.
He stated that extension officers must acquire professional skills in addition to technical skills.
The resource persons for the training programme were Dr. Rajumoni Bordoloi; Dr. Sajib Boruah; Dr. Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor, Agricultural Extension Department, SAS, NU, Medziphema; Marneni Divya Sree, SMS KVK, Dimapur; and Dr. Deepa Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Department of RD SAS, NU.

Topics covered during the training programme included orientation on soft and professional skills, participatory extension approaches, tips to improve delegation skills, time and team management, social media use and management, presentation skills and audiovisuals, training methodology and management, liaisoning with stakeholders, and documentation and reporting skills.
Participants also undertook a field visit to CIH and its farm.
The training programme concluded with the awarding of certificates to the trainees. Twenty officers from the agriculture department; three officers each from Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Soil and Water Conservation, and Horticulture departments; and two officers each from LRD and Fishery departments attended the training.
