DIMAPUR — State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, has organised a three-days training programme for ATMA functionaries on the topic “Seed production technology” from March 5 to the 7th.
An update from SAMETI stated that the inaugural programme was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, SAMETI deputy project director.
In his inaugural speech, director of SAMETI and principal of IETC, Bodevi Shuya, spoke on the need for sustainable food production. He stated that seed production and preservation measures are necessitated to ensure food security in the unforeseen future.

The resource persons were Dr. Harendra Verma, scientist of Genetics and Plant Breeding from ICAR, NER, Nagaland Centre; Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO of Genetics and Plant Breeding from KVK Dimapur; Dr. Martina Shitiri, ACTO (GPB) from KVK Kohima; Dr. Merentoshi, assistant professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding from SAS: NU; and Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum, from the department of Genetics and Plant Breeding SAS: NU.
Topics covered during the training programme included ‘Introduction to seed production,’ ‘Seed production technology in field crops,’ ‘Seed processing,’ ‘Seed certification and seed laws,’ ‘Seed production technology in pulses and oilseeds,’ ‘Advances in seed technology,’ ‘Seed quality parameters,’ ‘Seed storage and viability and seed production technology in a changing climate.
It stated that participants also undertook a field visit to ICAR Farm.
The training programme concluded with awarding of certificates to the trainees. Altogether, 25 ATMA functionaries attended the training programme.
