DIMAPUR — Runway Nagaland founder Nengneithem Hengna, along with 11 artisans, represented the state’s banana fibre handicrafts at a special interaction with President of India Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The delegation of artisans and weavers from the northeastern states, supported by the North Eastern Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation (NEHHDC), was recognised for their craftsmanship and cultural contributions.
According to an update, the invitation followed the collaboration of Northeast artisans in creating handcrafted pieces for the Republic Day 2026 “At Home” reception invitation collection at Rashtrapati Bhavan, highlighting the rich traditions, natural materials, and indigenous craftsmanship of the eight northeastern states.

Speaking on the occasion, Hengna shared that Runway Nagaland created a basket using banana fibre and bamboo that carries deeper meaning to honour the women artisans behind the craft, encourage the conscious use of natural resources, and reflect the belief that every art and every artisan deserves recognition.
Runway Nagaland also presented the president with a handcrafted banana fibre basket made in Nagaland by women artisans.
The event brought together nearly 80 artisans and weavers from across the Northeast. From Nagaland, the participating groups included Fusion Store, Woven Threads, and Peijai Weaver, in a gathering that celebrated the voices, stories, and skills of indigenous craft communities.
