Neiphiu Rio highlights NHHDC initiatives supporting Nagaland artisans through marketing, raw materials, exhibitions, production centres, and emporia

KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday highlighted the role of Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., (NHHDC) in promoting indigenous handloom and handicrafts and supporting artisans and weavers across the state.
In a post shared on X, Rio said the corporation, established in 1979 as a state government undertaking, has been working to develop and market indigenous handloom and handicraft products while strengthening the local economy and improving livelihoods.
He stated that NHHDC currently operates seven Nagaland Sales Emporia within and outside the state, located in Dimapur, Phek, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Kohima, New Delhi and Kolkata.
According to Rio, the corporation works closely with skilled weavers and craftsmen in rural households and supports them through production centres, supply of raw materials, exhibitions, fairs and sales outlets.
He said the operational activities of the corporation include production work carried out at the Craft Development Centre (CDC) and the Weaving Production Centre (WPC) located at its head office in Dimapur.

Rio stated that the corporation supplies raw materials to weavers and artisans at fixed rates and procures finished products from registered units for marketing within and outside the state.
He added that the corporation also organises exhibitions and fairs both within and outside Nagaland to promote indigenous products, create awareness and expand market access.
Highlighting the corporation’s projects, Rio said the Weaving Production Centre in Dimapur functions at full capacity and supplies handloom products to the emporia through in-house production as well as support from local and private units.
He said the Craft Development Centre develops prototypes and produces handicraft items aimed at meeting market demand.
The chief minister further stated that the Dyeing Centre undertakes quality-based dyeing of materials such as goat and yak hair, cane, bamboo, yarn and other fabricated materials, which are supplied to the production centres.
Rio also highlighted the Urban Haat in Dimapur operated by the corporation. The facility includes 80 stalls, a conference hall, food courts, guest rooms, lounges and other amenities, and hosts handloom and handicraft expos, craft bazaars and exhibitions throughout the year.
