Neiphiu Rio highlights Nagaland’s Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre for hands-on science learning, innovation, robotics and astronomy education.
KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre under the Department of Science and Technology, Nagaland, are empowering young minds to innovate, create and explore science.
Taking to X on Tuesday, Rio said the two centres, located at the Directorate of Science and Technology in Kohima and the Nagaland Science Centre in Dimapur, offer hands-on and project-based learning opportunities while encouraging young innovators to pursue their ideas.
He said the Innovation Hub promotes innovation, creativity and scientific engagement, while the Space Education Centre provides immersive astronomy experiences through realistic sky simulations and interactive learning.
According to Rio, the centres aim to strengthen innovation-driven activities, promote creativity and scientific engagement, foster problem-solving skills and project-based learning, and provide hands-on exposure to science, technology and innovation.
They also seek to inspire young minds, nurture talent in modern science, and recognise, encourage and support local innovations.

The centres also organise idea contests, innovation festivals and design challenges focused on local problems, while seeking to develop strong linkages with IITs, NITs, universities, research institutions and industries.
Highlighting the facilities available at the centres, Rio said the Innovation Resource Centre and Design Studio are equipped with computers, internet connectivity, 3D printers, CNC lathes, product design software, electronic equipment and digital touch e-projectors to support research, design and innovation.
The Electrical and Electronics Laboratory has equipment including cathode-ray oscilloscopes (CROs), signal generators, AC-DC converters, soldering tools, multimeters, sensors, integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, diodes and LEDs for designing and developing innovative projects.
The Mechanical Laboratory is equipped with drills, power hacksaws, jigsaws, circular saws, CNC equipment and a mini-furnace to support product and model development.
The Biochemistry and Physics Laboratory provides modern research infrastructure, biological and chemical apparatus, samples, biochemical techniques and physical science equipment to facilitate experiments and research.
The Robotics Section is equipped with LEGO EV3 robots, Arduino kits and other robotics infrastructure to facilitate hands-on learning, workshops, training programmes and competitions.
