Rengma noted that despite opposition to his unconventional ideas and literary style, Tagore remained steadfast and continued his work with dedication and confidence.
Recalling an inspiring episode from Tagore’s life, he said that although many initially criticised his writings, Tagore never lost faith in his vision.
His perseverance eventually earned global recognition when his renowned work Gitanjali won him the Nobel Prize in Literature.
He said Tagore’s journey serves as a reminder to believe in oneself even when others fail to understand one’s dreams and aspirations.
He urged students to emulate Tagore’s love for knowledge, creativity, discipline, courage and commitment to society, adding that education and wisdom remain the most powerful tools for bringing positive change in the world.
Calling on attendees to go beyond celebrating Tagore through music, art, dance, drama and poetry, Rengma urged them to embrace the ideals of peace, harmony and humanity that the poet championed throughout his life.
Short speeches were also delivered by NCD general secretary LK Peter Anal, Sargam Cultural Association advisor Mahavir Jain and Bengali Samaj Dimapur president KK Paul.
