Sainik School Punglwa hosts East Zone football meet as Imphal and East Siang emerge champions across categories

DIMAPUR — Sainik School Punglwa successfully hosted the Group E (East Zone) All India Sainik Schools National Games Football Championship, which concluded on April 9 after four days of competitive action.
The tournament featured participation from five Sainik Schools—Goalpara, Imphal, Chhingchhip, East Siang and host Punglwa—showcasing a high level of discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork among young cadets.
In the U-17 boys’ final, Sainik School Imphal edged past Sainik School East Siang 1-0 in a closely contested match. Imphal also clinched the U-15 boys’ title with a 1-0 win over East Siang. In the U-17 girls’ category, East Siang successfully defended their title, defeating host Punglwa 2-0.
The winning teams will represent the East Zone in the upcoming Intra-Group All India Sainik Schools National Games Football Championship.

Individual honours saw Cadet Gaurobi Das (East Siang) named Best Player in the U-17 girls’ category, while Cadet Maisnam Tabungba (Imphal) and Cadet Bompin Gangkak (East Siang) won the Best Player awards in the U-15 and U-17 boys’ categories, respectively.
The Best Goalkeeper awards went to Cadet Kothunee D. Zeruiah (Punglwa) in the U-17 girls’ category, Cadet Penngam T. Yaoham (Punglwa) in the U-15 boys’ category, and Cadet Nisith N. Saikia (Goalpara) in the U-17 boys’ category.
