DIMAPUR — Several tribal bodies have jointly appealed to the Kohima deputy commissioner for urgent repair of the deteriorating stretch of National Highway-29 between Kohima and Chakhabama.
In a joint representation submitted on Monday, the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Sumi Hoho, Pochury Hoho and United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji stated that the road, which connects Phek, Zunheboto, Meluri, Kiphire and adjoining areas, has become “virtually impassable.”
They alleged that the condition of the road has worsened due to the “continued negligence” of the construction companies responsible for its upkeep, despite the project still being under the maintenance period.

“The failure to repair and maintain this road not only poses a serious threat to the safety of commuters but also disrupts emergency services, affects local businesses, and severely hampers the economic well-being of the region,” the representation read.
Stating that the current condition of the road warrants immediate intervention, the organisations requested the deputy commissioner to direct the companies concerned to carry out immediate repair and restoration work to restore safe and reliable connectivity.
