DIMAPUR — The Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the proprietor of United Bakery, Kohima, for allegedly making false and misleading statements that linked the town’s traders to the relabeling of bakery products.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the PTBA stated that its actions were in response to recent allegations aired by NLTV and Global Window (YouTube channel) concerning the labelling of bakery goods by United Bakery, Kohima, where Pfutsero town and its traders were “wrongfully mentioned.”

The association stated it had promptly conducted an independent inquiry involving the United Bakery dealer in Pfutsero and the bakery’s proprietor in Kohima.

After due verification, it was established that no dealer from Pfutsero had ever requested or instructed United Bakery to alter or change any manufacturing date labels on bakery goods, the PTBA clarified.

According to the association, the proprietor of United Bakery admitted to giving a false and misleading statement to the news channels, wrongfully associating Pfutsero with the matter.

It was also verified that the consignment referred to in the report was intended for another district and not dispatched to Pfutsero.

In light of these findings, the PTBA has lodged an FIR at Pfutsero Police Station against the bakery proprietor for providing false information and defaming the town’s business community. It also urged the police and authorities concerned to conduct a full investigation.

The association added that there have been isolated instances of incorrect labelling from the bakery’s manufacturing unit.

Also, it stated that some local traders and consumers have reported that bakery products from other companies were found to be infected with fungus before their “Best Before” dates—suspected to be due to the repacking of old stocks with new labels.

The PTBA issued a stern warning to all bakery manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors to ensure accurate labelling and strict compliance with food safety standards. “Any bakery found guilty of mislabelling, repacking, or selling expired or unsafe goods will face strict action in coordination with the administration, police, and the Food Safety department,” it cautioned.

Assuring that it remains committed to protecting consumers and maintaining fair business practices, the PTBA also urged the Food Safety department to investigate the case and take necessary action.

Meanwhile, the Association announced that no new United Bakery products would be allowed to be dispatched in Pfutsero until the issue is fully resolved.
