Vegetable collection centre and seed bank inaugurated at Nsong town in Peren district to boost farmers’ market access and sustainability.

DIMAPUR — A vegetable collection centre and seed bank at Nsong town under Tening block, Peren district, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Peren, Hiazu Meru, on April 16, at the vegetable collection centre near Pro Rural Office.
In his address, the DC lauded the efforts of Pro Rural and the local community, stating that such initiatives would enhance market access for farmers and promote self-reliance in the agriculture sector, a DIPR report stated.
Guest of honour Prof. Dr. Akali Sema stressed the importance of preserving indigenous seeds and promoting agricultural sustainability.

In his keynote address, Director of Pro Rural, Paul Lokho emphasised the importance of farmer collectives and sustainable agricultural practices. The CEO, FPO Nsong Village, Joshila Newme presented the activities of the FPO.
In his welcome address, Kanzeirang of Nsong Town Council underscored the significance of the initiative in strengthening the livelihood of local farmers.
Short speeches were delivered by EACs Ihoilung Chuilo, Lesehu Meru and Vikhuli Achumi, who appreciated the initiative and its positive impact on rural livelihoods.
The programme featured a folk dance performance by Nsong Village youth.
Later, the seed bank was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Akali Sema.
