The Press Information Bureau concluded a five-day press tour to Assam for journalists from four North Eastern states.

DIMAPUR — The five-day press tour to Assam organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) for journalists from four Northeastern states, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, concluded in Guwahati on Friday.
The media delegation, comprising 11 journalists from leading regional media organisations, participated in the tour from February 16 to the 20th, with the objective of providing first-hand exposure to key developmental initiatives and major institutions in Assam, stated an update.
During the tour, the delegation visited the National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region in Guwahati, where they were received by senior officials and briefed on digital infrastructure, data management systems and technology-driven governance initiatives.

The journalists also interacted via video conferencing with Ashish Asthana, Deputy Director General, National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, who highlighted efforts to strengthen digital public service delivery across the region.
The delegation visited the headquarters of the Northeast Frontier Railway in Guwahati, where Vivek Saxena, Chief Administrative Officer, and Kapinjal Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, briefed them on enhanced rail connectivity, infrastructure expansion and rail-based development initiatives supporting socio-economic growth in the Northeast.
As part of the exposure visits, the delegation travelled to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its rich biodiversity and varied landscapes. The journalists observed the diverse flora and fauna that make it one of Assam’s prominent wildlife destinations.
The team also visited the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi), where PVSLN Murty, Chairman and Managing Director, highlighted the corporation’s role in promoting entrepreneurship and supporting start-ups, particularly in remote areas of the Northeastern Region.
Officials of the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd. and the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited also briefed the delegation on initiatives aimed at promoting farmers, artisans and local entrepreneurs.
On the fourth day, the delegation visited the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, where Pradip Kr. Das, Head of the Centre for Drone Technology, outlined the institute’s research initiatives in drone technology and its contribution to strengthening India’s indigenous drone ecosystem.
The journalists also visited the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Initiative (AAHII), where Rajendra Bokil, chief financial officer, briefed them on the development of a 50 mT portable MRI machine and cost-effective robotic surgical systems.
Dr Swapnil Sinha, CEO, BioNEST, highlighted start-up incubation and innovation support programmes in the healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
The delegation further visited the National Forensic Sciences University, Guwahati, where Prasenjit Maity, Campus Director, elaborated on the university’s role in providing quality education and undertaking cutting-edge research in forensic and allied sciences, as well as supporting the criminal justice system across the Northeastern states.
