Press Information Bureau leads Northeast media delegation on Guwahati tour to showcase development and key institutions.

DIMAPUR — A media delegation comprising 11 journalists from Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh is on a five-day press tour to Guwahati from February 16 to the 20th, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
In a press release, the PIB stated that the objective of the tour is to provide firsthand exposure to developmental initiatives in Assam and to showcase the state’s rich cultural and institutional landscape.
Journalists from leading media organisations, including The Sangai Express, The People’s Chronicle, Aizawl Post, Arun Bhoomi, and Eastern Mirror, are participating in the programme.
As part of the itinerary, the delegation visited the National Data Centre for North Eastern Region in Guwahati.
The visiting journalists were received by Hiranmoyee Goswami, Head & Senior Director (IT); Naina Begem, Senior Director (IT)/Scientist-F; and Sekhar Dey, Senior Director (IT)/Scientist-F.

The media representatives were briefed via video conferencing by Ashish Asthana, Deputy Director General, National Informatics Centre, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, from New Delhi.
The interaction provided valuable insights into data management systems, digital infrastructure, and technology-driven initiatives aimed at strengthening governance and public service delivery across the Northeastern region.
The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Northeast Frontier Railway in Guwahati, where an interactive session was held with senior officials.
Vivek Saxena, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and Kapinjal Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), briefed the journalists on enhanced rail connectivity, infrastructure expansion, and rail-based development initiatives supporting socio-economic growth in the Northeast.
The interaction highlighted the strategic role of railway connectivity in promoting regional integration and economic development, it stated.
“The media delegation will continue the tour until February 20, visiting key institutions and locations including Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, National Forensic Sciences University and the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Initiative, among others,” the release added.
