
Government officials along with senior citizens and public
leaders of Wokha town during the inauguration of Sevic Senior Citizens Home on
Friday.
- WOKHA — President
of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Friday virtually inaugurated the Sevic Senior
Citizens Home in Wokha from New Delhi along with similar inaugurations in Tamil
Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The initiative under
Scientific Vision Centre aims to enhance and strengthen care infrastructure for
senior citizens across the country.
- During the inaugural event, President launched the senior
citizen welfare portal to improve accessibility to various welfare schemes and
support systems for senior citizens. Following the portal launch, five old age
homes were remotely inaugurated, marking a significant step toward
strengthening elderly care services. The president also highlighted key
government initiatives including the PM health card for senior citizens.

- As part of the programme, a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) was exchanged and additionally, the president distributed assisted living
devices to senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshir Yojana, aiming to improve
their quality of life through essential mobility aids and daily assistance
tools.
- The event featured a pledge ceremony and a speech delivered
by Dr. Viendra Kumar from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,
reaffirming the government’s commitment to elderly welfare and inclusive
development.
- Amit Yadav, secretary of Social Justice and Empowerment,
delivered the welcome speech, emphasising the importance of the initiative in
addressing senior citizens' needs.
- Speaking at the inaugural programme in Wokha, C James Ezung,
district welfare officer, stated that the Ministry of Social Justice had
earmarked the Scientific Vision Centre in Wokha for the establishment of senior
citizens home. He stated that the initiative would address long-standing
challenges faced by elderly individuals in the district and provides essential
welfare services.
- He urged senior citizens, particularly those managing
independently, to register and avail the facilities. He further informed that
services could be accessed at the office of Social Welfare or directly at Sevic
Senior Citizens Home, located at Etsutchukha Colony in Wokha town near Mt. Tiyi
College.
- The programme was attended by joint secretary of Social
Welfare, Olemjungla Aier; director of Social Welfare, Tosheli Zhimomo;
additional director, Aoakum; ADC of Wokha, Renpomo Ezung; and other officials.
