Equipment failures and bad weather trigger repeated power outages across Kohima, with restoration work underway to normalise electricity supply
DIMAPUR — Large parts of Kohima and adjoining areas are experiencing repeated power outages after two major equipment failures disrupted the state's transmission network, prompting the Power department to undertake emergency restoration work and appeal for public cooperation.
According to a press release issued by the department, the outages were caused by equipment failure at the 132/33/11kV RESS Kohima and a fault in the 132/33kV power transformer at the Chiephobozou Sub-Station, both of which were affected by inclement weather.
The disruptions have affected power supply to parts of Kohima village, Kohima town and the Southern Angami area stretching from Pfuchama to Khuzama via Jakhama through the Kohima Ring Main Line.
Electricity supply has also been impacted in parts of the Northern Angami area, from Meriema to Botsa via Nerhema, as well as the Pughoboto Range, which are served through the Kohima–Chiethu Line.

The affected areas are currently being supplied from the 132/33kV NU Meriema Sub-Station through a single 33kV feeder as a temporary arrangement. Under this setup, any fault on either the Kohima Ring Main Line or the Kohima–Chiethu Line results in outages on both lines because they are drawing power from a common source, it stated.
The department informed that restoration work is underway to repair the damaged equipment and restore normal power supply at the earliest.
It appealed to residents to bear with the temporary inconvenience and assured that alternate arrangements would be put in place until the system is fully normalised.
